Hotel Metropole Taormina:
history of an icon

In the heart of Taormina, next to the historic Torre dell’Orologio, stands a magnificent 18th century building that today houses the iconic Hotel Metropole Taormina.

A place steeped in history, where past and legend intertwine to create a truly unique atmosphere.

Originally the residence of jurist and archaeologist Biagio De Spuches, the palazzo once held a private collection of ancient coins and artifacts from the Greek Theatre, some of which remain on display.

In 1876, it became the Bellevue inn, and by the early 20th century, it had transformed into the elegant Hotel Metropole, celebrated for its exclusivity.

After decades of neglect, a meticulous restoration in 2007 restored the building to its former glory. Today, the Metropole boasts 25 unique rooms and suites, a SPA with a hammam, and an infinity pool that appears to merge seamlessly with the blue of the Mediterranean.

According to legend, hidden within its walls lies an ancient gold ring once belonging to the priest of the Temple of Jupiter Serapis, still waiting to be discovered.

Hotel Metropole Taormina is more than a hotel. It is a timeless experience, welcoming travellers from around the globe with its historic charm and contemporary luxury.
